The Maya Hull Story

Maya's Journey... From Beginner to Valencia Region Rugby

'Hey Connor. Do you fancy trying out rugby?"  That is how it started....

Then a little voice from the other side of the room said, "I'd like to try too."  No problem, Maya, let’s go down to the beach to see what is happening. The rest, as they say, is history.  Maya turned up to training on the Arenal beach. From then on, she was, quite simply, hooked.

Fast forward 2 years, we now have a teenager who is so passionate about the game of rugby. This young lady would train all day every day if she could. Although she had to say goodbye to Àguiles to join Barbarians when she became too old for the S14 side, she is still supportive of the Àguiles club and all the players and coaches. She even still turns up to some training sessions when she can.

Her integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline, and respect for the game and those who play rugby is defining the characteristics of, not only her rugby game, but also her as a person. Her knowledge of the game now is wonderful. She, in turn, has several positions on-field that she can now play, whether it be flanker or winger and of course her favourite - scrum-half. Although, seeing her being launched into the air as a line-out jumper is not for the faint hearted! Her ability to absorb the crunching tackles that come her way is testament to the superb fitness and strength she now possesses.

This passion and dedication have now led to her being chosen to play for her club in a beach tournament in which she scored her second hat-trick. Onwards from that, she was thrilled to represent Barbarians in trials when she was chosen to represent the Valencian Region in the Spanish Championship Women's M16 Rugby 7s which took place in Tavernes de la Valldigna in June, 2022. Excitement and joy and a smile from ear to ear as she scored a try in the last game in her group. She is now part of the Valencia 15-a-side where she recently played against the team from Buckinghamshire, England. More training for Valencia in the coming weeks. Go - Our little pocket rocket. A true example of dedication, passion and above all.... Never Giving Up!
